This song says it all.
Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don’t patronize – don’t patronize me
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
‘Cause I can’t make you love me, if you don’t
I’ll close my eyes, then I won’t see
The love you don’t feel when you’re holding me
Morning will come and I’ll do what’s right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t
You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I’ll feel the power
But you won’t, no you won’t
‘Cause I can’t make you love me, if you don’t.
No, we can’t make someone love us and that’s ok because the experience of trying, as painful as it can be, is how we learn more about ourselves- what we desire, need, want. If I’m still here when I’m 80, I sure hope that I have figured all that out by then and that I’m with a very kind gentleman, sitting on a dock overlooking the Bay toasting martinis and winking at each other in celebration of life and who will pick me up when I tipsy out of my wheelchair.

Could we make the martini toast when we’re just a bit younger? If we’re going to dream…

Well, sure. We need to get moving though as time isn’t on our side ;(

This song always makes me cry and it relates to my relationship so well. How can someone tell you they love you but turn around and refuse you the very intimacy they claim they want with you. How can they tell you they love you and hurt you with words to the very core of you? The answer is, they don’t.
